Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This policy has not been reviewed by a lawyer. It should be checked before launch, particularly the sections covering information about people who are not our clients.
Who we are
This website is operated by Sydney Private Investigations, a licensed private investigation firm located at Suite 102, 377 Kent Street, Sydney NSW 2000, holding NSW Master Licence 412080174.
You can contact us about anything in this policy through our contact page, or by phone on 1300 773 293.
What we collect through this website
Through the enquiry form on our contact page we collect only what you type into it:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your phone number, where you provide one
- The contents of your message
We also record technical information that arrives with any web request, including your IP address, browser user agent and the page that referred you. This is used to detect automated abuse of the form and to understand which pages bring people to the site.
Spam protection
The enquiry form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA. When it is active, Google receives technical information about your interaction with the form in order to score whether the submission is automated, and Google’s privacy policy governs that processing. The form also applies our own checks, such as how long the page was open before submission and how many links a message contains.
Cookies and analytics
This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not share visitor data with advertising networks.
How we use what you send us
We use the information you provide to respond to your enquiry, to give you an estimate of cost, and to carry out any investigation you subsequently instruct us to carry out. We do not sell, rent or trade your information.
How and where it is stored
Enquiries submitted through this website are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database attached to this site, and are also emailed to us using SendGrid. Both providers process the data under their own privacy terms. The website itself is hosted on Cloudflare Pages.
Enquiry records and case files may be retained for up to seven years, reflecting the period during which a matter may still be relevant to legal proceedings.
Information about other people
Investigation work necessarily involves handling personal information about people who are not our clients, such as the subject of a surveillance job or a person we have been asked to locate.
That information is collected only where we have a lawful basis to do so, is used only for the specific instruction it was collected for, and is disclosed only to the client who instructed us, to their legal representatives where the client directs, or where we are required to disclose it by law or by a court.
We do not accept instructions where the purpose appears to be unlawful, and we may decline or discontinue a matter on that basis.
Confidentiality
We treat the existence of your enquiry as confidential, not merely its contents. We will not confirm to a third party that you have contacted us.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Contact us through our contact page and we will respond.
Requests to access material gathered during an investigation instructed by somebody else are handled differently, because that material may be subject to legal privilege or to an obligation we owe to our client. We will explain the position where that applies.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a privacy matter, you can refer it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Updates
We may update this policy from time to time. The date shown above reflects the most recent revision.
